Blogging and the common man (or woman)

So I was on Facebook the other day and an ex work colleague of mine from the U.S. says 'Its kinda tough to keep up with you, when you don't post anything!'. At around the same time, I found this blog. I've also been checking out twitter to try to understand what all the media hype is about. I think I've finally worked it out. You see, blogs and microblogs are a good idea - reading them, that is. We all use them all the time. But let's face it, we don't all have something really meaningful to say all that often. To suggest that you should be able to update your wall on facebook daily or to have something interesting on twitter regularly is a nonsense for 99% of us. OK, so you're the president of the United States. So yes, people are waiting attentively to hear what you've got to say (I'm a follower). But nobody outside of my immediate family really cares that my 2 and a half year old came up with a new word today. Or that someone got laid off at work, except my colleagues at work. But we all like to think that we've got something very interesting to say. Truth is that 99% of us should be followers or read-only users of these social networking sites and the 1% should be the followed. But the human ego just doesn't work that way. And now, here I am, somewhat ironically creating a blog about how the common man shouldn't blog. Well it's recursive! Well I did say that we all probably have something interesting to say, now and again.

So I was doing some ego surfing on my e-mail address and discovered this blog from 4 years ago.

Galway and Eyre Square

OK, I'm going to add my small voice to the long list of people in Galway and surrounding areas that are pissed off with the way that Eyre Square is being managed. It is a project that is costing €9 to upgrade a square, takes 18 months, does untold damage to local business and seems to be going no-where. I knew there was a problem when they started taking out >50 year old trees
